Rivian delivered 19,248 vehicles in the third quarter, 46 percent more than a year earlier and 1,248 units above the FactSet consensus of 18,000. The company left its full-year 2026 target of 65,000 to 70,000 deliveries untouched.

The math gets steeper from here

To reach the low end of that range Rivian must ship at least 23,193 vehicles in the fourth quarter, a 20.5 percent step-up from the pace it just posted. The midpoint of the guidance band implies an even larger sequential jump. The third quarter already represented a 46 percent year-over-year improvement from 13,201 units.

R2 ramp carries the narrative

The beat comes as the entry-level R2 SUV, launched earlier this year as a smaller and cheaper alternative to the flagship R1, moves through its production ramp. Management has tied the full-year outlook to that model gaining volume. The R2 is meant to broaden the addressable market below the R1's price point.

Guidance discipline holds

Rivian raised the annual target earlier in 2026 and declined to move it again despite the quarterly upside. The decision keeps the bar where analysts have been modeling it. Whether the fourth quarter can deliver the required acceleration remains the only variable that matters.
