Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group and Warner Music Group have taken equity stakes in Stability AI through a $76 million Series B that also includes Electronic Arts, AMD Ventures and Pacific Alliance Ventures. The round pushes total capital raised under chief executive Prem Akkaraju to $232 million since he arrived in 2024.

The investor coalition

Coatue, Greycroft and Kadmos Capital are reinvesting alongside individual backers Sean Parker and Eric Schmidt for a second consecutive round. Previous ties and new capital

Universal and Warner had already signed strategic partnerships with Stability AI in October and November 2025 respectively, agreeing to co-develop tools powered by what they described as responsibly trained generative AI. Sony Music had not previously announced a formal alliance. The Series B converts those commercial relationships into ownership positions, though the stake sizes remain undisclosed.

Board changes and litigation context

Coatue co-founder Thomas Laffont joins a board that already includes filmmaker James Cameron, former Facebook president Sean Parker, Greycroft managing partner Dana Settle and Akkaraju himself. Stability AI said the capital will fund product development, applied research and professional services. The company’s emphasis on licensed training data, highlighted by the recent launch of Stable Audio 3.0, comes while it continues to face copyright litigation in other parts of its business.

What the money buys

Akkaraju framed the investor group as providing “expertise, credibility, and direct connection to artists” alongside capital. The company argues that artist-centric AI only wins if the licensed platform experience beats the unlicensed alternative. Whether the major labels’ equity positions align their incentives with that thesis or simply hedge against it remains an open question the source does not answer.
