India Glycols shares jumped nearly 14 percent intraday on the BSE on Tuesday, erasing a three-day decline as traders bet on imminent listing dates for two spun-off units. The stock opened at ₹323.35 against a previous close of ₹319.65 and touched ₹363.90 before paring gains, while volume spiked more than 7.7 times its recent average.

The catalyst is a rumor

No corporate announcement triggered the move. The exchange itself asked for clarification on 8 October after the shares climbed sharply, and the company replied the next day that it had disclosed all material information and was unaware of any specific reason for the price action. Market chatter has centered on the expected listing of IGL Spirits Limited and Ennature Bio Pharma Limited, the two entities carved out in the three-way demerger that took effect on 1 September.

A demerger designed to shed a conglomerate discount

India Glycols now holds the chemicals, glycols, bio-glycols, specialty products and industrial gases businesses. IGL Spirits takes the country liquor and bio-fuel operations, while Ennature Bio Pharma houses the bio-pharma and bio-polymers units. Analysts argue the split removes the valuation drag of a mixed portfolio, letting each pure-play attract its own institutional base and capital allocation framework.

The numbers behind the momentum

The rally extends a longer run. Shares have risen 75 percent over the past six months, 120 percent over two years, 362 percent over three years and 2,435 percent over the last decade. The 52-week high of ₹399.95 was hit on 8 October; the low of ₹171.49 came on 27 January. Technical analysts note the stock trades above key moving averages with a daily RSI in the 40-80 range, flagging support at ₹310 and resistance at ₹380.

What to watch next

The exchange has not yet published listing dates for the spun-off entities. Until they do, the shares will likely trade on speculation rather than fundamentals, and the volume surge suggests speculative positioning is already heavy. A formal timeline would convert rumor into event risk, and give the market something concrete to price.
