Iambic Therapeutics raised $150 million in an initial public offering on Wednesday, selling about 9.4 million shares at $16 each to begin trading on the Nasdaq Thursday under the ticker IAM. The offering adds public capital to the $462 million the AI drug discovery startup has collected from private investors since its 2019 launch, a war chest built on the promise that machine learning can compress the timeline and improve the odds of finding new medicines.

The offering terms

The $16 price puts the deal at the bottom of the range the company had signaled in its filing, a detail that matters more than the headline raise. Iambic’s prior backers, Nexus, Catalio Capital Management, Abingworth and Illumina Ventures, have already funded the company through preclinical work and into a Phase 1 study for its lead asset. The IPO proceeds are earmarked to push that program toward a potential registrational trial and to advance two follow-on candidates into the clinic next year.

The pipeline and the promise

The lead drug, IAM1363, is an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor targeting HER2-positive solid tumors. Early Phase 1 data showed anti-tumor activity and a manageable safety profile in patients who had exhausted multiple prior treatments. A registrational study could start as soon as 2027. Behind it sit IAM217, a KIF18A inhibitor aimed at ovarian and triple-negative breast cancers, and a CDK2/4 program for a common breast tumor subtype. Both are slated to enter human testing next year. Partnerships with Takeda, AbbVie, Jazz Pharmaceuticals and Revolution Medicines provide external validation, though the financial terms of those deals were not disclosed.

The AI biotech backdrop

Twenty-five biotechs have priced IPOs in 2026, per BioPharma Dive data, a pace that dwarfs last year’s anemic total. Aspen Neuroscience and Lycia Therapeutics are among those lining up to follow. Yet the cohort Iambic joins, AI-native drug companies, has a mixed public-market record. Several have struggled after listing, and the sector’s rhetoric has drawn scrutiny. Isomorphic Labs, the Alphabet-backed rival, has stated its goal is to “solve all diseases” with AI. Iambic’s own filing claims a “fundamental shift” that can “disrupt legacy drug discovery paradigms.” The market will price the gap between that language and the binary outcomes of clinical trials.

What to watch

The first readout comes when IAM1363 reaches a registrational trial, currently projected for 2027. Until then, the stock trades on platform faith and partner credibility. The $150 million buys runway, but in this sector the real currency is data, and the clock starts now.
