Shares of Bending Spoons surged 35% after a securities filing disclosed that Berkshire Hathaway has committed a fresh $330 million to the Italy-based serial acquirer, lifting the conglomerate's total outlay to $930 million since the company's Nasdaq debut in July.
The stake builds
The latest tranche arrives at $33 a share for 10 million newly issued ordinary shares, a price that values the incremental stake at a modest premium to the pre-announcement level. According to the filing, Berkshire now holds a 4% position, up from the slice acquired in the initial $600 million round that coincided with the listing.
The acquisition engine
"We believe Berkshire Hathaway's investment reflects confidence in our team and Platform and will further enhance our financial flexibility and ability to pursue attractive acquisitions as part of our broader financing strategy," said Francesco Patarnello, co-founder and head of business acquisitions. The company's pipeline, he added, remains strong.
Abel's first year
The decision marks one of Berkshire's most visible capital allocations since Greg Abel assumed the chief executive role from Warren Buffett at the start of the year. The conglomerate has historically avoided technology roll-ups, making the repeat bet on a company built almost entirely on buying and integrating software assets a notable departure.
What to watch
Investors will now track whether the additional dry powder accelerates Bending Spoons' deal pace or simply extends its runway. The 35% share move suggests the market is pricing in the former, though the company has yet to disclose specific targets.
