President Donald Trump said Friday he will direct as much as $500 million from his super PAC toward Republican midterm campaigns with roughly two months until Election Day, a commitment that dwarfs the group's current spending pace and its disclosed cash reserves.

The numbers don't match

MAGA Inc., the hybrid PAC backing Trump, reported $403.45 million on hand at the end of July, according to its Federal Election Commission filing, less than half the "close to a billion dollars" Trump cited in the Oval Office. Since January 2025 the group has deployed only about $21 million, with $1.7 million of that classified as independent expenditures. The Associated Press notes its war chest already exceeds the cash reserves of the major party committees.

Structure and control

The funds are not Trump's personal money. As an unauthorized hybrid PAC, MAGA Inc. can raise unlimited donations into a non-contribution account for independent spending but cannot transfer cash directly to candidates. Trump nonetheless described the pool as "my money that I control" and said he will personally decide which competitive House and Senate races receive support.

Timeline and leftovers

Activity has picked up modestly: the PAC covered a Vice President JD Vance event in Michigan this week. Trump also said Wednesday he would make numerous campaign stops, including a trip to Alaska for Senator Dan Sullivan. He added that he expects a balance to remain after November and could carry funds into the 2028 cycle; federal rules do not require the group to spend down this year.

What to watch

The gap between the pledged half-billion and the $21 million spent over twenty months will be the measure of whether the operation shifts from reservoir to river. With the election less than sixty days out, the pace of independent expenditures, not the headline figure, will determine the PAC's actual influence.
