Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang told a Goldman Sachs conference on Thursday that cybersecurity will emerge as artificial intelligence's next major commercial application, positioning the business as a continuous-revenue successor to the coding assistants that drove early adoption.

The coding-to-security pipeline

Huang framed the progression as linear: coding assistants arrived first, bug detection follows naturally, and cybersecurity sits at the end of that chain as a very large market. Unlike prompt-driven coding tools, he noted, defensive AI systems operate without interruption, creating a recurring revenue model where customers pay for around-the-clock operation rather than per query.

Nvidia's partnership structure

The chipmaker has already formalized agreements with CrowdStrike, Cisco and Palantir to co-develop AI-driven security products. The arrangements signal that Nvidia intends to supply the compute layer while established vendors contribute domain expertise and distribution, a structure that keeps Nvidia upstream of the customer relationship.

The safety debate runs parallel

While Huang spoke, a separate conversation about existential AI risk continued elsewhere in Silicon Valley. Researchers at Anthropic have argued that more capable models could enable sophisticated attacks if deployed without guardrails. Huang was not questioned on that debate and did not address it, confining his remarks to the commercial opportunity.

OpenAI signals the same vector

OpenAI chief financial officer Sarah Friar appeared at the same conference two days earlier and described cybersecurity as a significant commercial opportunity for her company. The convergence suggests the largest model builders view defensive applications as a primary path to monetizing next-generation capabilities beyond chat and code generation.

What to watch

The revenue model hinges on enterprises accepting continuous AI monitoring as a budget line item rather than a project expense. If buyers treat it as infrastructure, the recurring stream could exceed the one-time licensing fees associated with current generative tools. The partnership terms with CrowdStrike, Cisco and Palantir, including any revenue splits or exclusivity provisions, have not been disclosed.
