Royalty surge signals production maturity

Licensing revenue rose 10.7% while royalties jumped 16.1%, a divergence the report attributes to a wave of historical design wins finally reaching high-volume wafer production. The multi-year pipeline from design to tape-out has matured, triggering trailing royalty payouts that outpaced new licensing activity. The numbers confirm what foundry utilization rates have signaled for quarters: the 2022-2023 design cycle is now printing money.

Arm's 93% CPU share meets silicon ambition

Processor IP commands 52.2% of total spend, and Arm captured 93.3% of that segment after growing 26.4% to take 49.4% of the entire design IP market. The strategic tension intensified when Arm began developing its own Arm General Infrastructure chips, turning a pure IP partner into a commercial silicon supplier. RISC-V specialists post explosive growth

The defensive hedge runs through RISC-V. SiFive's CPU IP revenue surged 34.6%, Syntacore grew 35.3%, and Semidynamics added 22.2% as chipmakers fund alternatives to reclaim design control. The momentum is real but polarized, dedicated specialists are absorbing the bulk of new investment while established vendors watch their CPU revenues contract.
